Sarawak Is Boring!

A quiet tropical beach in Sarawak at low tide, with calm waters, a sandy shoreline, luch green hills, and clear blue skies.

We’ve heard this many times over the years.

“Sarawak is boring.”

It’s an interesting statement.

Not because it’s right.

Or wrong.

But because it tells us very little about Sarawak.

Over the years, we’ve spoken with people from all over the world, each imagining where they might spend the next chapter of their lives.

When people compare places, they’re rarely comparing them in isolation. They’re often comparing them with somewhere they’ve lived before. A city they know well. A favourite holiday. Or perhaps a life they’ve imagined but never lived.

Perhaps that’s inevitable.

Two people can experience exactly the same place and leave with completely different impressions.

One sees peace.

Another sees emptiness.

One enjoys having nowhere in particular to be.

Another wishes there were more happening.

Neither is wrong.

They’re simply looking for different things from life.

Some people know almost immediately that Sarawak isn’t for them.

Others discover, over time, that it suits them better than they expected.

Not because Sarawak became something different.

But because they discovered they valued different things.

Now take another look at the photo.

Some people will see an empty beach.

Others will see a beach almost entirely to themselves.

The beach hasn’t changed.

Only the way it’s experienced.
